Working for the Scenic Rim

11 April 2017

The LNP has reached out to farmers in the Scenic Rim impacted by recent flood events caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie, to ensure they are able to access disaster relief support.

Beaudesert MP, Jon Krause, hosted two community forums on Monday 10 April in Beaudesert and Aratula to share information and advice with affected primary producers following the floods.

Mr Krause was joined by Federal MP for Wright, Scott Buchholz and Shadow Natural Resources and Hinchinbrook MP, Andrew Cripps, to convey key recovery messages to local landholders.

"This is our third major flood event since 2011, but it's still very important that our community keeps up-to-date with the latest information about what support is available" said Mr Krause.

"I've been moving around the Scenic Rim since the latest flood event and it's very clear there is some major damage to the agriculture sector - those farmers will need support" he said.

Mr Krause said the most important short term goal was to get information about what support is available into the hands of farmers and collect information about the extent of the damage.

Mr Cripps said communities in his North Queensland seat had been through several cyclones and floods over the last decade and stressed the importance of securing the right support.

"Gathering the data to lock in a Category C NDRRA declaration is the priority, so we ask farmers to report their own damage and encourage their neighbours to do the same" said Mr Cripps.

"In my experience, it is also critical for policy holders to pay close attention to the assessment of insurance claims for storm damage to buildings, infrastructure, or machinery" he said.

Mr Cripps said the LNP team was travelling extensively to support the recovery of local communities in North, Central and Southern Queensland impacted by Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

Mr Krause encouraged all primary producers to report the damage caused to their properties to ensure the greatest amount of support was made available to the region.

Damage can be reported to industry contacts listed below.
