The opening of a state primary school at Yarrabilba has been brought forward by a year thanks to strong lobbying by Member for Beaudesert Jon Krause.
Mr Krause has maintained pressure on the State Government to bring the school’s opening forward to 2018 in order to meet the needs of Yarrabilba’s rapidly growing population.
“I’ve met with Education Queensland officials on a number of occasions to make bringing the school forward a year a reality,” Mr Krause said.
“Over a 100 people a month are moving to Yarrabilba and business developments such as the recently opened IGA convenience store and Coles supermarket scheduled to open in November will fuel further growth.
“I’m delighted that the school opening has been fast-tracked – it’s a win for Yarrabilba families who will have more convenient school access and will also benefit the wider community by preventing overcrowding at our existing schools.
“It is expected that 300 students will attend the school when it opens next year – that would be very strong enrolment figures for a school in its inaugural year and demonstrates the very real need for this facility.”
